He’s growing too fast…just like my kids. He keeps us super busy with long walks, daily excursions to the dog park and super fun outings to the dog beach in Coronado. He is funny, loving and a huge PITA all wrapped into one adorable little pup. We (excluding my husband, so he says) love him dearly and have so much fun coming up with new fun things to do with our pup. It makes us a closer family and gets us out doing more things together, away from the TV and away from my dreadful laptop. He’s pretty much awesome.

And just to compare, here he is at just 8 weeks old, the day he arrived to our home…

I am suuuuuuuper lucky because I recently received an email from Jodi of MCP Actions asking if I would be willing to be a “try out” her new action set “MCP Newborn Necessities”. UM, need you even ask?! I obviously am totally honored and am always looking for a way to speed up my work flow and make my life a little bit easier. I immediately grabbed an image that had taken me quite a bit of time in the past to get the color right and used the new set she so kindly sent over. Oh my gosh, it was a piece of cake! I literally did nothing to this image but open it in Photoshop, touch up the skin and run the few actions from her set noted below. I adjusted the opacity until they fit my liking and flattened. DONE. Just like that. I didn’t adjust the color beyond that, I didn’t make any massive fixes and the BEST part…it still looks like MY work. It doesn’t look like I ran someone else’s actions on my work. It looks like I managed to make this action set represent Brianne Brose Photography and that is very difficult to do with actions. I am sure you all know that! Once you find your style, it is nearly impossible to use actions unless you created them yourself. Huge kudos to Jodi at MCP for creating an action set that is so versatile, so beautiful and so easy to use. I hope you all love them as much as I do!

So happy I finally have the opportunity to sit down and blog this session…because oh my goodness, he sure is a cutie! I was so excited when I arrived for my newborn session and saw they had the most gorgeous light filling their living room area. They had an amazingly gorgeous balcony with huge floor to ceiling to windows that just allowed the light to flood in and provide me with the most perfect space to work with. It just so happened that they had also just put their home on the market and we had an open house going on during our session! No joke, we had people walking in and out of the area we were working in, trying to view their home but instead, couldn’t help but stare at sweet baby Thomas. They sold their house in 3 days and I can’t help but believe that his adorableness was the selling point! He was the best little guy for me, a total dream work with. Thank you to the family for being so great that day! I can’t wait to see you guys again!

If you know my children, you know that Marlowe is my overly girly-girl. She is super dainty, super petite and reminds me of a little pixie. Olivia has always been tiny but she loves to play with the boys and couldn’t care less about what she wears, how her hair is styled or any of that other girly stuff. Marlowe on the other hand is all about her shoes, wants her hair done (poor thing doesn’t realize she doesn’t have any), loves dress up and is just over the top girly in general. People often tell me how cute my little boy is because she has NO hair still and I was really tired of it. Not only does she look super feminine to me, but she is always dressed like a girl, so how on earth can people mistake her for a boy? I figured piercing her ears might solve this dilemma. And she was super excited to get it done. She just keeps telling me “pretty, mama” and pointing to her ears. She loves them. Now hopefully we can avoid her being mistaken for a boy in the future.

And I am just so blessed to have 2 girls that are so different and so perfect in their own way. I have always been a combo of girly and tom boyish. I grew up an athlete, swam competitively my whole life. So I was never overly consumed with my appearance being perfect because I lived my life wet, in a speedo on a pool deck. But on the other hand, I LOVE clothes, make up, shoes, etc and love feeling like a woman. I adore seeing these 2 aspects of me in my children and can’t wait to see their little personalities evolve as they grow up. Being a mom is awesome.

Just wanted to share a few snapshots from yesterday…she really wanted me to take pictures of her with her new earrings. Silly girl.

Yup, she is totally silly too. She is being crazy with her big sister here…

This little smile is seriously so contagious…you can’t look at her without smiling right back!

And finally, I think I forgot to share a picture of our new puppy Bennett. I have been a little behind on blogging! But here is at 14 weeks old. Cutest guy ever!

This year has been very exciting for us…so many new adventures in our lives! Olivia just LOVES kindergarten and last night they had their father-daughter dance at her school. They had a blast and I just wanted to share a few pictures I took of them before they headed off for the evening. Didn’t they look so cute together?!

I am in the midst of making Olivia’s valentine cards to hand out at kindergarten so we spent a few minutes today taking pictures to put on them. I am not a big prop photographer so I had absolutely nothing to use that was valentine-ish, haha. I brilliantly (or not) decided to cut out a heart, had her color it red and we wrote her name on it. That is about as valentine prop as it gets, right?! LOL. I like to consider myself a creative artist, but perhaps this cheesy cut out heart has proved me wrong?

So the past few months have been a long road to getting my life back. I have lost 30 lbs and feel like a whole new woman. I am still a good 10 lbs from my pre-child weight but I am a heck of a lot closer to being Brianne again and whole lot less the fat mom I had become. I am sure you all want to know my secret and well, like always, there really isn’t one. Unfortunately I have no miracle cure for you. I 100% changed my eating habits. I had to detox from my sugar addiction and I started eating “clean”. I quit all processed foods for 30 days, no sugar, no starches and ate only a very select few veggies, fruits and meats. I quickly saw a major change in my body, all of which wasn’t happening with just exercise and trying to eat healthy over the last 2 years after giving birth to my youngest.

I am now about 65 days into my new life and feeling wonderful. The best part is my husband did this journey with me and we both feel great together. It was rough to start but has evolved into a new lifestyle, which we both enjoy for the most part. For now, we still avoid processed foods but have a much bigger variety of food we eat. Most meats, veggies and fruits are allowed. I love eggs too! I also eat sprouted grain breads (Ezekiel brand or Trader Joe’s brand) with natural peanut butter. Other than that, we still avoid starches, carbs, sugar (we do eat small increments in things, but nothing major) and we feel much healthier. I confess that I have cheated a tiny bit over the holidays. Couldn’t reject my mom’s yummy cheesecake, so I had a small portion. And I shared a few gingerbread boys with my girls while at Disneyland. I have also had frozen yogurt a couples times, I just watch my portions and don’t do it often. I still want to live my life, I just want to be in control now. And I finally am!

Anyhow…this led to me to needing a good crustless quiche recipe for breakfast since we can’t have starch/carbs. I take my breakfast with me to my job everyday and I am very tired of my hardboiled egg and grapefruit combo. I am a creature of habit for sure but even I am sick of that same old meal now. I scoured the internet and finally found a recipe that seemed like something I would like. I made a bunch of changes since it was more of a casserole and didn’t say exactly what to use but it gave me a starting point. I decided I wanted ham steak, egg and a good cheese. I am a HUGE cheese fan. I chose a yummy aged gouda while on a trip to costco today and boy did I choose right!

Here is the crustless quiche making process photos and then recipe to follow.

Crustless Mini Breakfast Quiche

½ Kirkland Ham Steak

1.5 cup shredded aged Gouda

6 eggs

salt & pepper

2 tablespoons dijon mustard

heavy cream

Preaheat oven to 350 degrees.

Dice up ham steak into tiny cubes.

Shred aged gouda.

In large measuring bowl, add 6 eggs, 2 tablespoons dijon, a dash of salt (you can skip this if you want, since the ham and cheese are already salty, but I like me some salt) & fresh ground pepper, however much you like. Add the heavy cream til you get to the 3 cup line. Whisk together.

Spray muffin pan with canola spray, this is VERY important.

Put enough cheese to cover the bottom of each mini muffin. Add cubed ham til you get near the top, but still a bit below it. Pour your egg mixture over the cheese/ham contents til you get to the top. Add a sprinkle of cheese on top of each one. Gently poke each quiche with a toothpick to make sure the egg mixture has gone down into the entire thing.

Cook for 25-30 mins on 350. Turn oven to 450, move the muffin pan to the broil area and broil for about 1 min, watching closely to just slightly brown them. Remove from muffin tin immediately to avoid over cooking and allow them to cool on plate.

This made 3 full trays of 12 mini quiches, obviously 36 total. I packed them in sets of 3 in snack bags for breakfast. Kept enough out for a few days and froze the rest.

I hope you all enjoy this recipe as much as I have. It is SO good!

I gave in to the massively popular “twinkle light” pictures this year. It seemed easier than trying to drag my unwilling children to some location outdoors and have them melt down in public (I usually have a meltdown too). But I was wrong, this was not easy either. As usual, I ended up saying words I shouldn’t say, sweating far more than any woman should and feeling like all the images must have turned out like crap. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw these little angelic faces on my computer screen as I uploaded them from my flash card.
