34 weeks and counting…
brianne brose | san diego lifestyle photographer

Well folks, we are still here and waiting to meet our beautiful girl…can’t believe I am 34 weeks now (and 3 days to be exact)!  We have made a ton of headway and lots of decisions have been made over the past couple days.  My c-section has been tentatively scheduled for 36 weeks, with the hopes that there are no complications in between.  Also, we will do an amniocentesis the morning of my scheduled c-section to make sure her lungs are good and ready…which with her steroids she received at 30 weeks, should be fine.  If for some reason the results are not good, we will try to push it to 37 weeks…but nobody is sure my cord/placenta is trustworthy that long.

Due to having velamentous cord insertion (umbilical cord is connected to membrane rather than directly into placenta) and Marlowe being diagnosed with IUGR (intrauterine growth restriction, which was caused by the poor cord/placenta connection), the risks are just too high to risk a vaginal delivery (the cord can break off during labor and the results can be deadly).  We have thought long and hard about our options and all of the possible complications of attempting an induction and for right now, we are feeling better about the c-section option….it just reduces the “what if” scenarios.  I have been VERY nervous about having a c-section as I FEAR anesthesia and do NOT like the feeling of being numb…even for dental work!  I had an induction with Olivia and did not have an epidural, so I don’t feel remotely prepared for the sensation of having more than half my body completely numb and tingling.  I have many concerns regarding the entire procedure but luckily have many wonderful friends that have given me tons of advise and shared their own experiences.   And my doctor has been very awesome about letting me know EVERY possible thing that could occur from each option.   It has been very hard to decide bc I see so many different doctors and specialists and each one seems to have their own opinion…but the one that knows me best is my own OB and for now, I trust her.

Ok…so that is the story for now and I, of course, will keep you all updated.  Here is my updated belly picture from today….I actually feel like my belly looks and feels bigger lately, rather than just my whole huge body, LOL!

And finally…our beautiful baby Marlowe!

Merry Christmas 2009…
brianne brose | san diego lifestyle photographer

What a seriously awesome day…it couldn’t have been any better.  I am so beyond blessed that I was able to be home with my family and not in the hospital for Christmas this year!  Olivia was so super excited and I don’t think I have ever seen her happier, it was awesome!  This was the first year she has really understood the concept of “Santa” and really was excited about every single gift she got.  It was so fun to see her having such a blast!  Although I am on bedrest, I was totally able to participate and be a part of the gift opening celebration with her and the family.  I managed to take some snapshots of the morning and for the first time ever, I actually had some free time to blog them on the same day, wow!  So, Merry Christmas everyone and Happy Birthday Jesus!  Thank you to everyone who has prayed for me and Marlowe this holiday season…we beyond appreciate all of you!

This was our 1st Christmas at home (we always go back home to my parents, but not allowed this year for obvious reasons) and she ran down the stairs to see what Santa brought for her…

33 weeks and counting…
brianne brose | san diego lifestyle photographer

Sorry for the lack of updates…I tend to be really lazy at home and forget to update my blog!  Since returning home, I have learned that not everyone agreed with the perinatologist’s decision to send me home on this past Monday.  My OB was not on call in the hospital the day I was sent home and apparently was under the impression that I would be delivering Marlowe while I was there, with no possibility of being discharged until that happened.  So, due to this….all of my appts in the office for NST/AFI were all canceled!  I did get a call from the nurse and she scheduled me for this past Thursday and that appt went alright.

Marlowe monitored “ok” as usual, with no accelerations in her heart rate with movement like they want to see, but no decelerations. Basically, they scheduled me the 21st, 24th, 29th for NST/AFI and then with perinatal on the 30th. My dr called the perinatologist she wants me to see that day and explained the entire picture to her. She says this particular perinatologist is very conservative with the baby’s well being and we will see what her perspective is after the growth scan.  I will be 34 weeks then and she has already had her steroids, so this good! My dr did not make me any further appts after that date, so it appears that is the next “goal” date for me to get to. Hope we can make it til then bc I REALLY want to be home for Christmas with Olivia!

So, for now…here are my 33 week belly pictures.

Oh and try not to acknowledge my leggings, shirt that is not long enough for leggings and my Ugg boots. I don’t leave the house, so I chill in what is comfy and I haven’t put on any make-up in at least 3 weeks! I realize I shouldn’t go in public like this and believe me, I don’t, hehe.

marlowe’s crib bedding arrived…
brianne brose | san diego lifestyle photographer

I had her bedding custom made on Etsy bc I had a total vision of exactly what I wanted and obviously couldn’t buy it pre-made.  I was soooooo nervous bc it wasn’t cheap and I had no clue how it would turn out besides seeing her other pictures.  I made some custom choices that she hadn’t done on other crib sets, so it was a gamble, but it turned out better than I ever imagined.  I could not be happier!  I am on strict bedrest, so I made my mom put it all in the crib (she didn’t really tie the bumpers in yet) and I took 2 pictures REAL quick, I swear, LOL!

Here are my pictures for now…once I get her room completed, which likely won’t happen til after she is here, I will take pics of her entire room.

Marlowe Update…
brianne brose | san diego lifestyle photographer

We had our growth scan today at 3pm and we actually got some good news!  We found out she has moved up from the 1st percentile to the 3rd percentile and is now an estimated 3lbs 6oz.  She was only 2lbs 9oz just 2 weeks ago, so this is awesome, as they didn’t expect much growth at all!  She past all of her requirements during her growth scan to remain in my belly and continue to grow “at her own pace”.   She is still a VERY tiny baby, but despite having some pretty unimpressive NST while hospitalized, she looked great on her scan.  We have to keep in mind that she looks great for her condition and things are still far from ideal, but this is much better than what we were expecting.  Prior to my ultrasound, my nurse predicted I would deliver in the next 2 days…so I was feeling very down and very scared.  It came as a HUGE relief to find out she could stay put for a bit longer.  It was a bit scary during the scan bc I could see what each measurement was equal to.  For example, her legs and arms measure only 28 weeks 6 days!  And her belly is only 29 weeks…while her head is closer to 31 weeks.  This gives us an overall estimation of 30 weeks even, when she should be 32 weeks 1 day.

And for the very BEST news…I was sent home this afternoon, as they feel the hospital bedrest has helped immensely.  I will continue the 3x weekly NST/AFI and I am on strict & constant kick count watch.  Of course I am to call L&D for any decreased movement (more decreased than we are already experiencing) or if I just feel unsure of anything.  I want to thank everyone for all their prayers and thoughts during this time….I truly believe that she has stayed inside me bc of all the positive thoughts, support and prayers from everyone in our lives.  You guys are all the best!  I will continue to update now from home…with my girl sitting on the couch by my side.  I am so unbelievably happy to see her and listen to her.  She says the funniest, most awesome things all the time!  I am so happy to be home!

And our perinatal ultrasound tech is soooooooo sweet…she gave us a couple 3D pictures and a profile of her, so here they are!
